We are looking for a General Practice Assistant to be the first contact clinician's support assistant, ensuring the smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.
This could be to take simple observations from the patient, such as blood pressure; or to carry out an ECG or phlebotomy. Acting under the full guidance and instruction of the clinician, they may then request that you seek advice and guidance from the specialist service or that you send off a referral to the hospital.
The role will also require you to help support other administration functions on a timely basis, according to the need of the patient.
Main duties of the job

1. To work within his/her professional boundaries and competencies.
2. To provide care to the presenting patient in their own home or in the surgery. This will include initial history taking and general observations.
3. To work within the Practices protocols and guidelines as directed by the lead GP clinician from the on-the-day team.
4. Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.
5. Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.
6. Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments of patients.
7. Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment.
8. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.
9. Explaining treatment procedures to patients.
10. Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission while the GP can continue with their consultations.
11. Support the GP with immunisations/wound care.

Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Qualified as a HCA
Experience
* Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients
* Experience of working in a healthcare setting
* Experience of working either within a GP practice or in a primary care setting
