An opportunity has arisen to join Ward 16, Elective Orthopaedics as a part-time Ward Clerk on a permanent basis. We are looking for someone who can work 3 days a week, from 7am to 3pm, between Monday to Saturday. The post holder would need to provide a courteous, efficient and professional Ward Clerk service, making a valuable contribution to support patient care from time of admission to discharge. The successful candidate would be the first contact point for all Ward visitors and members of the multi-professional team; good interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Previous NHS clerical experience is desirable and administrative and computer skills would be an advantage. The successful candidate will need excellent telephone manners and must be able to deal efficiently with members of the public and all disciplines of Hospital staff.
Main Duties of the Job
The post holder will provide a comprehensive administrative receptionist service to the department. This will include:
* Answering phone calls, adhering to confidentiality rules.
* Making appointments for patients.
* Filing notes.
* Inputting data onto computerised systems including PAS, Bluespier, EZ notes, and Sunrise.
* Prepping notes for admission to the unit.
* Ordering stationery for the unit.

Job Responsibilities
Job Summary
The post holder will provide a comprehensive administrative/receptionist service to the department. This will include making appointments on computerised systems in accordance with agreed policies and procedures, filing notes, and inputting data required for audits.
Key Responsibilities
* Use of manual and computerised systems including PAS, Bluespier, EZ notes, and Sunrise to:
* Maintain and check patient registration details and demographic information.
* Record the issue and receipt of records on the PAS case note tracking system.
* Check EZ notes and ensure they are available for planned TCIs.
* File reports/correspondence/forms etc. in an ordered manner, to facilitate the efficient retrieval of such documentation on request.
* Make up new folders and register patients.
* Order stationery supplies when required.
* Input data for audits.
Working Relationships
Internal: Consultants and junior medical staff, Nurse Practitioners, other hospital staff both within the department and outside, other healthcare professionals, medical secretaries, health records staff, PALS.
External: GP surgeries, other hospitals, patients, and relatives/carers.
This post involves handling medical notes and VDU work. Individuals may be exposed to violence and aggression.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSE Pass in Maths & English.
* Any recognised computer qualification.
Experience
* Experience of working with the public.
* Previous NHS experience in a clerical setting.
* Experience of working with a team.
Skills
* Good interpersonal and communication skills.
* Good organisation skills.
* Ability to work as part of the Ward team, but also manage own workload.
* Basic IT skills.
* Ability to use Hospital computer systems: PAS, EZ notes, Bluespier, Sunrise.
