What is the job role?
You will undertake Level 3 Teaching Assistant apprenticeship standard. Further information for this apprenticeship can be found HERE.
This apprenticeship role is a fixed-term contract for 21 months in line with the length of the apprenticeship training.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Pathways to Employment Team and make a real difference to the lives of young disabled people with learning disabilities, autism/neurodiverse, physical disabilities, and other people who also face major barriers when it comes to gaining employment and learning.
The Pathways to Employment Team is part of the Skills, Employment and Adult Education Service. We work in partnership with the Council’s SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) team to ensure that our residents have choice and control, good quality support, and the opportunity to progress through a range of employment & learning pathways. We support individuals by helping them to develop their employment skills and progress into meaningful, sustainable, and good quality employment & learning opportunities.
Under the guidance of experienced Job Coaches and Tutors, you will support young disabled people to access other support where appropriate, support the provision for young disabled people with on-the-job training and support whilst in the classroom or on work placements, assist the Job Coaches and wider team with pre-job start activities for young disabled people, including recruitment days and employer contact, and work with the Study Programme Manager and tutors to support young people with additional and special needs in overcoming barriers to learning.
Within this apprenticeship, you will support individuals to access employment-related opportunities and become independent in their roles, providing the necessary coaching, training, and encouragement to enable them to succeed. This will include getting to know each individual, helping to match them to the right opportunities, and then providing them with on-the-job training and support in the workplace.
You will also provide assistance to learners with additional learning needs, enabling them to participate as fully as possible in the Study Programme. You will assist tutors in the preparation of lesson materials and be responsible for maintaining learner records and individual learning plans, as directed by the Study Programme Manager. You will support young people who experience severe anxiety in returning to education by meeting them at reception and walking with them to the classroom.
As part of your development across the apprenticeship, you will be exposed to working with employers to identify and create opportunities and ensure that they are supported and can confidently manage, train, and support customers once your support has been faded and withdrawn. With support, you will carry out regular monitoring visits and reviews to ensure that placements are going well and that individuals are progressing.
This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and as such, appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
You will be committed to Equality and Inclusion and fundamentally believe that everyone has the right to be part of and contribute to the economy regardless of the challenges they may experience. You will believe that with the right opportunity and support, everyone can achieve, make a positive contribution, and have a meaningful and fulfilling life.
You will be passionate about promoting independence and enabling people to achieve.
You will have a can-do approach and the ability to develop creative solutions to overcome obstacles.
