Due to retirement of our long standing Practice Nurse, Dale Medical Practice are looking for a Part time Band 5 equivalent Practice Nurse to support our existing clinical team. Salary commensurate with experience.
The role is 20-25 hours per week.
Practice experience is desirable.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work within guidelines and protocols to undertake treatment room nursing duties and assist with nurse run long term condition clinics. They should possess change-management skills and the ability to support patients in changing their lifestyle. Good IT and communication skills are essential.
Job responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Working within guidelines and protocols to undertake and record:
1. Urinalysis and preparation of specimens for laboratory analysis
2. Temperature, pulse and respiratory rate
3. Weight, height, waist circumference and Body Mass Index
4. Measurement of legs for compression hosiery
5. ECGs, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
6. Near patient testing e.g. blood glucose, lipids and INR
7. Doppler ultrasound measurement working with registered nurse
8. Measurement of airway function (peak expiratory flow rate)
9. Obtain venous blood samples from individuals for investigation.
10. Administer medications by injection with the appropriate legal authorisation.
2. Recognise health promotion opportunities and give brief, focussed lifestyle advice using motivational interviewing techniques which may include weight management and sexual health.
3. Undertake initial assessment of patients presenting with wounds, managing independently or referring to other services as necessary.
4. Remove wound closure materials including sutures, clips and staples.
5. Take samples for the cervical screening programme according to recognised standards.
6. Administer vaccines to adults and children according to the UK immunisation schedule.
7. Provide a pre-travel health service including administration of vaccines and advice after undertaking appropriate risk assessment.
8. Administer prescribed therapies such as contraceptive injections, vitamin B12, and depo neuroleptic medications recognizing side effects and contraindications.
9. Develop and follow referral pathways for patients with specialist needs.
10. Assist nurse-run long term condition clinics:
1. Carry out clinical measurements and near patient testing for patients with diabetes, asthma and COPD in line with NICE guidance and Quality and Outcome Framework indicators.
2. Recognise signs and symptoms that may indicate undiagnosed long term conditions.
11. Participate in quality improvement and innovations e.g. audit, significant event analysis.
12. Contribute to development of protocols and new services that aim to reduce unwarranted variation.
13. Attend in-house meetings and contribute to development of the nursing service.
14. Participate in ongoing supervision and mentorship of unregistered health care staff, nursing students and junior nurses.
15. Attend in-house and external training events.
16. Complete statutory training/updating and mandatory training as defined by the practice.
17. Participate in an annual individual performance review.
18. Identify and address risks in work activities.
19. Follow appropriate infection control procedures.
20. Maintain work areas in a tidy and safe manner.
21. Communicate effectively with individuals in other agencies.

Qualifications
* Registered first level nurse
* Application & confirmation of NMC Registration
* Clinical supervision training and experience
* Qualifications/certificates in respiratory medicine, COPD, spirometry & Asthma
Experience
* Experience of working in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2018)
* Experience in implementing protocols and clinical guidelines
* Experience in quality initiatives such as clinical benchmarking
* Audit skills
