Senior Process Engineer Location: Aberdeen (with travel to Barrow) Job Type: 1-Year Contract (Initial) Start Date: ASAP Industry: Oil & Gas / Energy Job Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Process Engineer to join our Facilities Engineering team and provide day-to-day discipline engineering expertise within our asset operations organization. This role ensures safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operations while optimizing production and applying engineering principles to fault-finding and incident investigation. As a direct link between the discipline engineering organization and the operated asset, the Senior Process Engineer plays a crucial role in maintaining operational efficiency. The position will be based in our Aberdeen office with required travel to Barrow. Spirit Energy currently operates a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based employees. Employees are required to work three core days in the office, with Tuesday and Wednesday being compulsory, and one additional day of the employee’s choosing. The remaining two days can be worked remotely or in the office. Travel expenses to Barrow can be claimed. Key Responsibilities General Responsibilities: Provide daily process engineering support to meet operational demands set by the Operations/Terminal Manager. Troubleshoot operational issues, identifying root causes and implementing improvements. Define and execute solutions for immediate repairs in compliance with standards and engineering processes. Ensure engineering details are accurately incorporated into the 30-day and 90-day asset plans and execute required engineering aspects. Manage relationships with specialist vendors and mobilize them when necessary. Act as a point of contact for maintenance and operations technical queries related to process engineering. Define problem statements for modifications and oversee the Management of Change (MoC) process. Optimize processes to enhance efficiency and ensure adherence to performance standards. Provide engineering expertise for risk assessment processes, including deferral, operational risk assessment (ORA), and permit-to-work. Execute engineering responsibilities under the Engineering Delegation of Authority Standard. Lead shutdown scope planning and execution while managing budget constraints. Foster effective collaboration with operations, maintenance teams, and contractors. Process Engineering Responsibilities: Maintain up-to-date process models, Heat & Mass Balances, and asset-critical process documentation. Ensure integrity and reliability of safety and environmental critical elements (SECE), including overpressure protection, depressurization, blanket/purge gas, and hazardous open drains systems. Own and maintain key process documentation such as PFDs, P&IDs, and Cause & Effect charts. Drive closure of actions from AMS and MyHSES process studies. Participate in HAZOP, PHR, LOPA, and other risk assessments, ensuring effective risk mitigation. Lead investigations into production shortfalls, facilitating root cause analysis and multi-disciplinary problem-solving sessions. Provide first-level process engineering assurance for brownfield, maintenance, and capital projects. Qualifications & Competencies Essential Qualifications: Degree in Process or Chemical Engineering. Chartered Engineer status preferred. Strong understanding of UK COMAH legislation and onshore hydrocarbon processing regulations. Key Competencies: Shares knowledge clearly and unambiguously and also implements and embeds change. Can influence in a constructive way and is skilled at influencing decision-makers on complex topics. Proven ability to work collaboratively within their team, across the organization, and externally as required. Strong analytical skills for trend analysis, production optimization, and root cause investigation. Proficiency in HYSYS, Microsoft Office, and strong SAP experience, especially SAP PM. Experience working in a midstream/downstream hydrocarbon processing facility. Planning and organization for successful execution of multiple workstreams concurrently. Ability to interact effectively at all levels and positively influence teams across core operations crew and subcontractors. Conducts all activities in a safe and effective manner and raises safety and environmental issues immediately and in line with corporate policy. Experience Requirements: Proven experience in providing process-engineering support to major offshore production or onshore processing facilities. Extensive knowledge of Process and Major Accident Hazard (MAH) prevention technical practices and legislation. Hands-on experience in HAZOP, LOPA, and PHR action resolution. Familiarity with engineering documentation (PFDs, P&IDs, Cause & Effect charts, etc.) and regulatory compliance. Background in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Chemical industries is highly desirable.
