Description:
Performs a variety of installation, maintenance, and preventive maintenance and repair tasks on all HVAC equipment, and systems throughout the various facilities to include boilers, chillers, cooling towers and BAS.
Job Summary:
Performs preventive/corrective maintenance tasks and repairs involving motors, starters, and related equipment. Tests, maintains and repairs motor control centers. Covers the duties of the Heating System Mechanic when assigned.
Performs preventive maintenance tasks involving boilers, chillers, cooling towers, BAS, pumps, fans, heat exchanges, steam traps, valves and other HVAC equipment. Performs corrective maintenance on assigned steam and hot water heating systems, air handlers, fan coils, and associated controls. Calibrates and repairs pneumatic and electric control circuits. Repairs copper, steel or plastic pipe and tubing. Maintains Buildings & Grounds A/C and refrigeration systems. Maintains and repairs steam/hot water conversion systems. DDC experience mandatory.
Perform all assigned duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with department policies and follows Federal and State municipal codes as required. This person shall be responsible for directing the efforts, and the results, of any persons that may be assigned to assist in the work. Must be willing to work overtime in the event of emergencies and take callbacks when requested.
Qualifications:
Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings. Proven oral and written communications skills and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others. Proven knowledge of safe practices and principles of electric power in high voltages. Strong knowledge of low voltage control system characteristics and components and related test equipment and techniques. Proven knowledge of current systems, which must be maintained under duties and responsibilities. Must be able to work in close, confining spaces, and meet OSHA requirements and standards pertaining to work and environmental concerns.
This person shall; (1) be a U.S. Citizen, (2) be a vocational, trade or high school graduate, or have completed the G.E.D., (3) possess a valid drivers license and a clean driving record, (4) have the ability to read and write the English Language at the 8th grade level and possess the ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings as they pertain to the HVAC trade, (5) have at least four (4) years applicable experience in HVAC trade, (6) must hold CT S2 (S1 preferred) license for HVAC (7) must hold universal certification to reclaim refrigerant. Knowledge of NEC & OSHA codes, laws and regulations and provide proven knowledge and years of experience in the HVAC discipline.
Working Conditions:
Subject to exposure to severe weather conditions, inadequate light and ventilation. Will be required to wear eye, face, head, hand, foot, hearing and breathing protection when needed. All Federal, State and Local safety procedures must be followed at all times. OSHA regulations, and Federal and State municipal safety regulations must be adhered to and followed.
Physical Demands:
Stands, walks, stoops, kneels, lifts and works in all types of positions. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Must be able to handle the physical demands of the job, and work at heights on roofs, power hoists and ladders.
