We currently have an amazing opportunity for a highly motivated Echocardiographer to join our dedicated and friendly team at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is based across two sites, Preston and Chorley Hospitals. We have five great Consultant Cardiologists and currently serve a population of 390,000. We are a Foundation Trust and Teaching Hospital and actively participate in the training of SpR’s and Registrars. If you think you're up for the challenge we would love to hear from you.

Training and supervision will form part of this role. You will be responsible to mentor, provide training, development and support of a recently appointed trainee associate practitioner.
Main duties of the job
The Cardiac Physiology Team performs all routine non-invasive and invasive investigations. The invasive work is undertaken in the Cardiac Catheterisation Suite at Royal Preston Hospital which was upgraded to dual laboratories and refurbished in 2011.
Within echocardiography, the team performs invasive and non-invasive studies; performing 13,000 transthoracic, 300 Transoesophageal and 120 contrast and bubble studies per annum. The Department runs an Open Access Heart Failure Service which was established in 2002 and has recently incorporated a Direct Access Echocardiography Service and Physiologist Led Valve Clinic. The Trust is a tertiary centre for nephrology, neurosurgery and cancer services. Our echocardiography service is utilised prior to and post treatment for these patients.
You will work mainly in performing and reporting adult transthoracic echocardiograms but will also contribute to the provision of other clinical measurement services, if required. You will be responsible for assisting in the day-to-day running of the service and perform the wide range of investigations. You will be required to assist in the current development of our services within stress, 3D imaging and tissue Doppler.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Ensure a high standard of technical and clinical competence
* Specialist in Transthoracic and Transoesophageal echocardiography
* Perform, analyse and report all routine investigations within Cardiac Physiology Laboratory including electrocardiography, ECG Holter analysis, BP analysis, Tilt Table Testing, Exercise and Event monitoring to the required local and national standard
* Perform, analyse and report complex studies
* Ensure calibration and quality control of equipment is carried out for all procedures
* Assist and support Lead Cardiac Physiologist in the safe effective management of the department including management of personnel, facilities and associated systems and processes
* Ensure the environment of care is safe, well equipped and compliant with standards for hygiene and cleanliness
* Act as a role model, presenting a positive image of self, team and the organisation
* Actively try to resolve issues and complaints at local level and then report the outcome to line manager
* Communicate all relevant information to the multidisciplinary team internally and with external organisations as required, to ensure seamless care
* Participate in education and training of junior staff
* Maintain and develop own professional competence and seek to extend the scope of personal knowledge and skills within scope of role and professional practice
You must have proven post-registration experience with a BSc (Hons) Degree qualification in Cardiology or equivalent. You should have extensive experience as a senior cardiac physiologist and must have RCCP and BSE Accreditation.

Qualifications & Education
* Registered member on the Council of Clinical Physiologists
* Post grad Studies in relevant field
Knowledge & Experience
* Experience in Echo, including TOE, Bubble/Contrast studies.
* High level of specialist knowledge in areas of non-invasive cardiology
* Knowledge across all aspects of Cardiology.
* Advanced broad base of theoretical and practical specialist knowledge in cardiology
* Specialist knowledge in legislation for COSHH, RIDDOR, Health and Safety in invasive cardiology
* Proficient in teaching other grades of staff in all aspects of technical cardiology
* Proven experience in planning and organisation of staff training, meetings and conferences, and, if required, work-based assessor sessions
* Proficiency to assist as Lead role in Clinical Physiologist led exercising
* Able to lead the department in the absence of the Manager or Deputy
* Coordinating agencies and other organisations
* Experience in Pericardiocentesis, TDI, TVI stress echo and 3D echo
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent word processing and IT skills
* Evidence of involvement in recent research and development.
