Salary: £93 to £140 per day (Depending on experience)

About the Role:
As an Ad-hoc Cover Teacher, you will be responsible for stepping into classrooms on a short-term basis to cover for staff absences. You will be required to deliver pre-set lesson plans, ensuring that students continue their learning with minimal disruption. This is a highly flexible and rewarding position, allowing you to work across a range of schools in Southampton whilst ensuring a positive and productive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities of the Ad-hoc Cover Teacher:
1. Take full responsibility for the classroom in the absence of the regular teacher, maintaining a positive and productive learning environment.
2. Deliver pre-prepared lessons and ensure students remain engaged and on task throughout the day.
3. Provide support to students who may need additional help, ensuring all pupils can access the learning activities and are progressing appropriately.
4. Apply effective behaviour management strategies to maintain discipline and ensure the classroom remains focused and conducive to learning.
5. Provide feedback to the regular teacher and school leadership team regarding students’ progress and any notable incidents during your cover session.
6. Work closely with other staff to ensure continuity of learning and adapt quickly to the needs of the class.
Ad-hoc Cover Teacher Requirements:
1. A relevant degree in Education or a related subject, alongside Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent certification for teaching in the UK.
2. Previous experience working as a teacher or cover teacher, with a proven ability to deliver lessons effectively and manage a classroom of diverse learners.
3. Ability to quickly adapt to different schools, year groups and lesson plans.
4. A strong understanding of classroom management techniques to maintain control of the classroom and foster a productive learning environment.
5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with students, colleagues and school leadership teams.
6. The ability to uphold high standards of professionalism, both in teaching and in your interactions with students and school staff.
7. Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
