Your role as a Key Stage 2 (KS2) primary teacher in the age group of your speciality will be varied and at times challenging. But we doubt you’ll find a more satisfying career where your main objectives will be to develop the children and prepare them for the next stage.
As a primary school key stage 2 teacher you’ll be expected to:
1. Teach all areas of the school curriculum or your subject specialism
2. Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
3. Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
4. Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
5. Maintain discipline
6. Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
7. Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
8. Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
9. Take part in school events and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening
10. Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools

Teaching or classroom assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:
35. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
36. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
37. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
38. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
39. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills
