The Older Adult Community Mental Health Team based in Oxford is looking for an Assistant Psychologist to join their busy and long-established memory clinic.
The Memory clinic is a diagnostic service and you will be involved in the assessment of patients and completing neuropsychological testing as well as the support of the patient and family members throughout the process.
There will be opportunities for you to be involved in wider psychological interventions in the team and to spend some time in the Brain Health Centre in The Warneford Hospital and see some of the research the Trust is involved in.
You will need to have a keen interest in working with older adults and specifically working with dementia and cognitive impairment. Previous experience working in this area would be advantageous but not essential.
The Central CMHT in Oxford is a friendly and supportive place to work with a multidisciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, occupational therapists, and support workers as well as a dedicated administrative team.
Main duties of the job
You will play a major role in the day-to-day functioning of the memory clinic, for which you will need to have a high level of organisation and communication skills and be a positive team player.
* You will need to have a keen understanding of mental health and be able to undertake supervised assessments of patients attending the memory clinic, supporting medical staff interviewing and family members or carers.
* After training, you will offer neuropsychological tests, rating scales as appropriate, and psychometric screening.
* You will assist in the formulation and delivery of care plans involving the treatment and management of a client's problems under the supervision of a qualified professional.
* To work with other staff to assess patients and to work with carers/families to support the diagnosis of dementia.
* To collate data, analyse and produce reports and outcome summaries as required.

Person Specification
TRAINING & QUALIFICATIONS
* An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society.
* Further post-graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
* High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. Experience using microcomputers for databases. Ability to communicate sensitive information to patients, carers and colleagues. An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities. An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context. High degree of organisational skills, ability to adjust priorities.
* High standard of report writing.
EXPERIENCE
* Work with people with mental health problems and/or other disabilities. Experience of data entry and data analysis.
* Experience of paid work in direct care provision. Experience of working with older people and/or people with dementia.
PERSONAL
* An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines. An ability to interact with people with mental health problems and disabilities. Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals.
* An interest in working with people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
OTHER
* Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively. Ability and willingness to travel for business purposes.
* A desire to explore a career in Professional Psychology and/or mental health.
