Are you a leader with a passion for shaping places that people are proud to live, work, and thrive in? Rochdale Borough Council is looking for an Assistant Director of Place to drive the vision for a range of high-impact services, ensuring our borough continues to be a vibrant, sustainable, and welcoming place.
As part of our Wider Leadership Team, you will provide direction and lead the continuous improvement of key services including Environmental Management, Highways, Facilities Management, and Street Lighting. Your work will directly influence the lives of our residents, businesses, and communities, ensuring that public spaces, infrastructure, and essential services operate efficiently and effectively.
This is an exciting time to join Rochdale Borough Council. Our ambitions for regeneration, sustainability, and economic growth are bigger than ever. You will be at the heart of it all, shaping major projects, developing strong multi-agency partnerships, and ensuring high-performance service delivery.
You will also play a crucial role in supporting the Director of Economy and Place, making sure our priorities align with the council’s broader vision. This is a high-profile role where you will work closely with elected members, key stakeholders across Greater Manchester, and local communities to make a real difference.
About You
We are looking for an inspirational and experienced leader with a track record of working at a senior level in a large, complex organisation. You will bring a deep understanding of Place services within the public sector.
To succeed in this role, you will bring strong leadership skills to motivate and inspire diverse teams, drive innovation, have a commercial approach and create a culture of continuous improvement. You will utilise your excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, building effective partnerships with elected members, government bodies, and local communities. Financial acumen is essential, along with experience in budget management, resource planning, and getting the most from available funding. A results-driven approach is important, ensuring services are continually improving and making a tangible impact on the borough. You will need to balance long-term goals with the practicalities of service delivery, ensuring operations run smoothly and effectively.
This is an exciting leadership opportunity for someone who wants to shape the future of Rochdale. Join us and be part of a council that is proud, passionate, and committed to building a better borough for everyone.
