Job Description:
A Paramedic Practitioner in a GP practice in Leeds will play a critical role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, they will provide clinical expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and managing a wide variety of health conditions. The Paramedic Practitioner will support the GP team by handling urgent and routine cases, conducting home visits, and offering autonomous consultations, often acting as a first point of contact for patients with acute and chronic conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide direct clinical care, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of minor illness, injuries, and chronic conditions.
2. Conduct face-to-face consultations, telephone triage, and video consultations, determining appropriate care pathways for patients.
3. Manage urgent cases, perform home visits, and ensure timely interventions, especially for housebound or vulnerable patients.
4. Work collaboratively with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide integrated care.
5. Prescribe medications within scope of practice and refer patients for specialist services or secondary care as required.
6. Support ongoing management of chronic diseases, including diabetes, COPD, hypertension, and heart disease.
7. Perform minor procedures where appropriate, such as wound care, suturing, and removal of foreign bodies.
8. Contribute to the education and supervision of students, junior staff, and trainee healthcare professionals.
9. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and case reviews to enhance patient care and service delivery.
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
1. Current HCPC registration as a Paramedic.
2. Extensive experience working as a Paramedic, preferably in a primary care or urgent care setting.
3. Postgraduate qualification or advanced clinical training in primary care is highly desirable.
4. Independent prescribing qualification (or working towards this) is advantageous.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
6. Proven ability to work autonomously and make clinical decisions under pressure.
Working Conditions:
1. The role is primarily based in a GP practice, with occasional travel for home visits in the Leeds area.
