Have you previously been involved in the criminal justice system? Have you been to prison or been charged with an offence?
Have you previously been involved with drugs or alcohol services as a service user?
Have you experienced your own mental health issues?
This job may be for you.
We have a position available in our Health and Justice Service. We are looking for a person with lived experience to join our team.
We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to work alongside an exciting service which will be a partnership provided by Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) and North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust (NSCHT).
Working as part of the new service, it will be your role to support the mental wellbeing and act as a mentor for those within the criminal justice system.
Those who come into contact with the criminal justice system are far more likely to have unmet health and social care needs than the general population. By understanding and addressing those needs, we can reduce reoffending and help our service users on their recovery journey.
The role is primarily based within the Liaison and Diversion pathway, however with potential to rotate into other areas of the service.
Please note, we are unable to provide sponsorship for this role due to the required Skill Level and salary threshold.
This service aims to add value, purpose and direction to people’s lives.
The Peer Workers need to have personal experience of the criminal justice system (at a minimum arrested) and personal experience within mental health, learning disabilities, substance misuse or another vulnerability. The Peer Worker must also be abstinent from all illicit substances, in active recovery for a minimum of 6 months and not to have been involved in offending for at least 12 months.
We encourage you to ring and discuss this if you have any questions or concerns.
We can help you to complete your application form and answer any questions you may have and support you with interview preparation.
This will be a fixed term position for 2 years.
As a Trust, we remain bold and ambitious with plans for both service and system collaborative transformation over the coming years to improve the health and wellbeing of our local people through high quality care.

We are committed to the Greener NHS national ambition to becoming the world’s first ‘carbon net zero’ national health system by 2045. As part of this, sustainability is embedded in our strategy as one of our four key enablers. In order to deliver on this commitment, we recognise that we need a workforce that is as passionate as we are about achieving these goals, for the benefit of our service users, workforce, local communities and the planet alike.
For 2024/2025, we have launched our “Proud to be Green” engagement campaign which is aligned to the targets set out in our Green Plan. As a Trust, you can be assured that we will commit to supporting you in working towards our net zero ambitions, set out in our Green Plan, through our sustainability programme.
The Trust is committed to ensuring that a diverse workforce is representative and inclusive at all levels. We would very much welcome applications from all under-represented groups including women, people with disabilities, people from global majority backgrounds, and those from the lesbian, gay, bi and trans communities.
