Introduction:
Argyll and Bute Council’s Infrastructure Design Service is currently recruiting for 2 Civil or Structural Graduate/Assistant/Engineer career progression posts based at our Lochgilphead office.

About the role
Argyll and Bute Council’s Infrastructure Design Service comprises of a dynamic team of 12 Engineers and 7 Technicians and Officers at various levels. We run a variety of multi-disciplinary projects such as bridges, piers & harbours, coastal and flooding schemes as well as depot, cemetery, waste facilities and car park developments.
Our projects are located across the whole of Argyll and Bute which includes 23 inhabited islands and they range from pounds to millions of pounds in cost. The projects include the commissioning and management of Professional Service contracts as well as carrying out in-house designs for, preparation of tender packages for and site supervision of a wide range of construction contracts. In addition, we consult with members of the public and stakeholders to secure licences with SEPA, Marine Scotland, Crown Estates etc on a daily basis. Many projects are unique and the majority take schemes all the way from concept to completion.
The salary grading is LGE 9/10/11 (£33,213 - £45,860) depending on qualifications and ICE attributes obtained. The post allows progression from Graduate Engineer through attainment of ICE attributes to Assistant Engineer and to Engineer upon attaining either Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status within ICE.

About you
We are looking for someone who has completed the academic requirements of the Institution of Civil Engineers’ (or equivalent) Educational Base leading to Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status. Further information which must be provided in support of your application is how you consider that you meet this essential criteria. This can be done by describing how you have confirmed that you have verified that your academic qualification is accredited by the Engineering Council and is eligible for Professionally Qualified Membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (or equivalent).
We are looking for a good communicator with the ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues in other departments; someone who is reliable, enthusiastic to learn and progress to at least Incorporated Engineer membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers (or equivalent). A willingness to travel to various locations within Argyll and Bute to undertake site supervision and inspections is also required as part of the role.
