The Opportunity
We have an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer who is close to chartership and who is looking for technically testing work on cutting-edge projects, to become a permanent member of our creative, friendly Building Engineering Team in Newcastle.
You will work on some of the most exciting and innovative buildings across the world with our architects. The team are currently involved with over 100 projects world-wide from concept design through to practical completion. Current and recent projects include commercial, residential and social infrastructure projects including Bishop Square, Canada Water, Silk Street and New Bridge Street.
You will be a key part of a multidisciplinary, combined team of 200+ Engineers and Technicians within the wider North Region. Our projects are global and will allow you to work with and succeed in an international, multi-cultural business environment with a strong focus on sustainability in all we do.
The role will see you:
1. Working on systems including air conditioning heating, natural and mechanical ventilation, and building controls, appreciating their impact on the environment and collaborating across disciplines to minimise it.
2. Liaising with clients, architects and contractors for the delivery of designs.
3. Predicting and planning resources and associated costs/fees from a basic appreciation of operating costs.
4. Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior members of the team.
Is this role right for you?
We’re looking for a candidate who:
1. Has qualification in Mechanical, Building Services or Architectural Engineering.
2. Is a Chartered Engineer or close to obtaining chartered status via an appropriate professional institution such as IMechE or CIBSE.
3. Has knowledge and interest in sustainable building design in terms of both energy and carbon, and satisfying associated regulatory and voluntary codes.
4. Knowledge of current regulations and emerging technologies.
5. Has expertise and developing knowledge in using IES software for energy modelling.
