Technical Application Support Engineer (Controls and Automation)

About the role:
This role is part of a growing team focused on delivering exceptional technical support to meet the needs of an expanding client base and drive an application-centred business approach. The Application and Technical Support team acts as the first line of technical support for partners, customers, and regional sales managers, assisting with both pre- and post-sales technical needs.
In this position, you will leverage a strong understanding of our client’s products and relevant machinery safety standards to guide customers during pre-sales discussions. Following the sale, your focus will be on resolving technical issues and addressing in-depth questions, ensuring optimal product performance in the field.

Key Responsibilities
1. Respond promptly to customer inquiries across all platforms, providing resolutions or escalating as needed.
2. Provide technical support through on-site visits, phone, and other channels to support customers at each stage of the sales process.
3. Develop and communicate best practices for technical account management to the internal sales team, assisting with customer issue resolution.
4. Collaborate with other departments to obtain required part information and documentation.
5. Define product solutions for various applications and support replication efforts.
6. Contribute to project documentation to standardise and specify solutions for key customers globally.
7. Support key application areas to drive business growth and influence future product development.
Key Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
1. Applicants would ideally come from a controls/automation engineering background.
2. Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, electro-mechanical, mechatronics or automation and controls.
3. 1-3 years’ experience in technical development, field service, or engineering biased roles.
4. Understanding of industrial safety systems, PLCs, HMIs, and automation technologies; hands-on experience is preferred.
5. Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
6. Strong communication skills for engaging effectively with customers in person, over the phone, and in writing.
7. Team-oriented, comfortable collaborating across departments (e.g., Design, Quality, Sales, Engineering).
Desirable:
1. Knowledge of Machinery Safety Standards and Regulations.
2. Additional certifications in automation, control systems, or safety engineering.
3. Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Profinet, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT).
4. Experience with automation software tools (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Rockwell Automation Studio 5000).
5. Proficiency with diagnostic and testing tools for electronic and mechanical systems.
