Are you a passionate and experienced teacher looking for a rewarding one-to-one teaching/tutoring role? We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable teacher to support a young person with additional needs, providing a highly engaging, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
Hours are flexible between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, with the option for both part-time and full-time schedules based on your availability. Ideally, we are seeking someone who can commit to a minimum of 18 hours per week.
As the SEN Tutor, you will be responsible for leading and delivering innovative and engaging learning strategies tailored to support the student's development. You will work collaboratively with a teaching assistant and, on occasion, a second teaching assistant, ensuring a structured, supportive, and nurturing learning environment that enables the student to thrive.
Pay: £35 a hour
Key Responsibilities:
* Plan and deliver tailored lessons, incorporating both physical activities and table-based learning to support engagement.
* Adapt teaching approaches to match energy levels and interests, ensuring a stimulating and effective learning experience.
* Support advanced numeracy skills, setting appropriate challenges to develop problem-solving abilities.
* Encourage independent life skills, including self-care, meal preparation, social interactions, and community navigation.
* Facilitate reading and comprehension, introducing tools and strategies to promote independent learning.
* Provide a calm and reassuring presence, responding to anxiety and sensory sensitivities with patience and clarity.
* Manage transitions and routine changes, ensuring they are well-communicated and understood.
* Offer dignified and appropriate personal care support where needed.
* Monitor and assist with eating and drinking, considering additional care needs due to epilepsy.
About You:
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent experience working in SEN or specialist education. We welcome applications from candidates without Qualified Teacher Status (QTS); however, applicants must demonstrate substantial experience in leading within an educational setting.
* Experience in supporting students with additional needs, including epilepsy and visual impairment (desirable).
* Ability to design and implement individualised learning plans that balance academic and life skills.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, particularly when providing reassurance and structure.
* Confidence in delivering engaging numeracy and literacy lessons suited to individual learning needs.
* Understanding of sensory sensitivities and anxiety management in a learning environment.
* A compassionate and proactive approach to independence training and personal development.
