Children's Services Manager - Children & Families Practice Team (3243), Stornoway
37 hours per week, Permanent Post
£52,399 - £57,048 per annum, inclusive of £2,742 Distant Islands Allowance
The post holder will be responsible for the operational management and delivery of Children and Families Social Work functions including Child Protection, Looked After Children, Youth Justice, Throughcare/Aftercare, and family-based therapeutic inputs throughout the Western Isles. Additionally, the role involves the strategic development of Children’s Services alongside the Head of Service and Children’s Services Manager – Resources.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Chairing Child Care Reviews and monitoring the quality of child care services.
2. Working effectively with other services and agencies.
3. Management in Social Work.
Required qualifications and skills include:
1. A working knowledge of integrated assessment and care management.
2. A sound knowledge of childcare legislation and guidance.
3. An understanding of current social policy as it affects Children and Families social work.
4. The ability to manage competing demands and assist others in managing theirs.
5. Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and problem-solve.
6. The ability to lead and motivate staff and support them.
It is essential to hold a Diploma in Social Work or equivalent, and a full driving licence is required. This post can be based anywhere within the Local Authority area and is subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme in respect of regulated work with children & adults.
Salary for the above post is inclusive of Distant Islands Allowance. Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade.
