Summary of Duties
The Facilities Maintenance Helper is an entry-level role focused on supporting the upkeep and functionality of buildings and related equipment. Under supervision, the incumbent performs a variety of general and preventive maintenance tasks. Additionally, the role may involve assisting in specific repair projects and supporting skilled tradespeople or colleagues on more complex assignments. The Facilities Maintenance Helper is expected to strictly follow BELCO's safety protocols and work practices at all times.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
* Assist in routine building maintenance tasks, including replacing light bulbs, ceiling tiles, painting, and handling minor plumbing, electrical, and office furniture repairs.
* Assist in scheduled building inspections and document any deficiencies in preventive maintenance (PM) reports, such as lighting, plumbing, mechanical, and security issues. Complete service work orders as needed.
* Respond to and assist with general service requests, including emergency repair and maintenance calls.
* Ensure the organization and cleanliness of service areas, storage rooms, mechanical rooms, and maintenance shops.
* Support event setups and breakdowns, including tables, chairs, and other furniture for banquets, board meetings, and office spaces as requested.
* Assist with the construction, alteration, painting, and repair of structures made from wood, metal, plaster, concrete, or brick, as well as the assembly and repair of furniture such as cabinets, tables, and shelves.
* Provide assistance with the maintenance and minor repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems and related equipment.
* Help maintain and support the repairs of lockable hardware, such as doors, windows, security lockers, and magnetic keying systems, to ensure the safety and security of facilities.
* Assist in the reconfiguration, installation, and repositioning of modular office furniture, wall panels, lighting, storage units, and file cabinets.
* Assist with plumbing maintenance, including repairs, fixture replacements, piping inspections, and safety equipment checks.
* Collect materials and supplies from various locations across the island to support ongoing work tasks.
* Maintain, clean, and securely store company tools and equipment, ensuring they meet high standards of care.

Education and Experience
* High School graduation certificate or General Education Diploma (GED).
* Two (2) years basic experience in a related field (an asset).
* Demonstrated knowledge in building and/or facilities maintenance (an asset).
* Experience in safe usage of hand and power tools common in the construction trades.
* Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Working knowledge of various hand, power and specialty tools and dollies.
* Working knowledge of BELCO’s Health & Safety policies and procedures.
* Excellent customer service skills.
* Good communication skills.
* Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
* Ability to maintain co-operative working relationships.
* Ability to manage shifting priorities with very little direction.
* Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment.
* Ability to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, moving equipment unassisted, bending, standing and climbing.
* Ability to work in less-than-ideal conditions such as hot, humid conditions, and confined spaces.
