Offer Description
About us
Our contemporary Chemistry Department, based in the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences, provides an exciting place to explore the boundaries of the subject. The Department champions the discipline of Chemistry across King’s, leading with its own research and teaching, and encourages close interdisciplinary collaborations.
Applications are invited for a one year fixed-term position in the group of Dr Rebecca Musgrave in the Department of Chemistry, King’s College London. The research is directed towards the synthesis and characterisation of cyclic organometallic molecules and exploring their propensity towards ring-opening and polymerisation.
Applicants should have a PhD in synthetic chemistry, ideally with extensive experience in handling air- and moisture-sensitive materials using Schlenk line and glovebox techniques. Some experience in synthetic polymer chemistry is desired, but not essential. Excellent communication skills and experience of writing up research results for publication are expected.

* A PhD in synthetic inorganic chemistry (or pending results)
* Experience in the safe handling of highly air- and moisture-sensitive reagents
* Experience in using Schlenk and glove box techniques
* Experience synthesising and characterising organometallic complexes
* A strong record of publication in relevant and peer reviewed journals
* Ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods
* Excellent communication skills, including the ability to write scientifically, clearly and succinctly
* Experience in synthesis of cyclopentadienyl-derived ligands
* Experience in the synthesis of organometallic heterocycles
* Experience supervising PhD students
