To support the social, emotional and personal objectives for students to assist our young people in engaging in educational achievements through a sensory programme and intensive interactions.
Salary point: PP 24 – PP 28 £23,910.50 - £27,179.81 (Fulltime Salary)
£16,160.2 - £18,361.7 (Based on 25 Hours per week) (Subject to Level 5 Qualification and meeting all desirable role requirements)
Hours: 25 hours per week / 47.6 weeks per year - With 24 hours of contact sessions with students per week.
Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract until July 2025
Key Responsibilities
The post-holder will be expected to:
* Establish and maintain a positive and ongoing supportive relationship with a caseload of students.
* Effectively engage students and their families/ carers/ external support and develop trust-based relationships to provide an appropriate and consistent level of support.
* Work with a student cohort as directed by your line manager to develop a rapport and support the social, emotional, sensory and behavioural needs of these students.
* Regularly meet with your caseload of students in classroom settings to support their personal development.
* Act as a role model for students, behaving appropriately, communicating effectively and being a calm and reassuring presence in college.
* Work holistically and collaboratively with students and others within QAC to deliver the best possible outcomes for students.
* Undertake support sessions ensuring appropriate records are maintained with agreed actions and support plans via Databridge.
* Work with Psychologists to access the Explore programme to guide the delivery of sensory sessions, ensuring awareness of curriculum needs in relation to your students.
* Expand the Explore programme by adding new activities and updating the systems as needed.
* Act as an ‘Urgent Responder’ in relevant situations for your caseload.
* Liaise with Tutors and attend sessions where students are experiencing particular challenges if timetabling allows to understand barriers students are experiencing – providing advice and guidance on ways of working in this setting.
* Communicate with staff via the delivery of training events and twilight workshops.
* Ensure all students within your caseload have clear and concise notes, which record students’ progress.
* Contribute to the Development of Positive Behaviour Support plans for your students.
* Implement assessments of sensory needs and write sensory plans to support students.
* Maintain confidence in recording and liaising with the Safeguarding team and logging through appropriate software due to the nature of the role.
* Undertake a reflective approach to working practice, engaging in 360-degree feedback and demonstrating a commitment to improving and enhancing working approaches.
* Perform such other duties commensurate with the status of the post as senior management shall from time to time decide.

About Queen Alexandra Charity Queen Alexandra Charity (QAC) provides education, residential support, community services and enterprises in support of young adults with learning difficulties and disabilities.
Education is provided through a national residential College that supports a diverse range of student/client abilities and needs. Our College provides education, training, routes to independent living and employment through an innovative, holistic approach to learning and support. We have educational and learning sites based in Birmingham, one of Europe’s most welcoming and vibrant cities, with a rich and diverse culture. Our main site is based in Harborne, a pleasant leafy Birmingham suburb, on a friendly and green 8-acre campus with excellent facilities and resources. In addition we also have Pinewood Campus which is located on a business park and is designated to employment progression.
Clients within our Residential Services programme still require support and the aim is to deliver a service that provides them with the means to live independently/semi-independently into the future. Many clients are either in education, voluntary work or paid employment not linked to QAC directly.
Our Community Services based at our Umberslade Campus in Stirchley include a supporter worker service, women's group, men's group, LGBTQ plus group, Saturday Socials, The Night Owl Experience (disability friendly night club visit in Birmingham City Centre).
