Job Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join us to work at HMP Prisons as part of the multidisciplinary team that offers Mental Health and Wellbeing Services to the population of HMP Norwich, HMP Bure, and HMP Wayland. A very warm welcome awaits you!
We are looking to recruit a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner to join our team; we welcome interest from those who hold the relevant qualification and are looking for a new challenge in this unique environment.
Qualified applicants will hold a Post Graduate Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Therapies.
If you want a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is definitely the job for you! Prisons are one of the most challenging yet extremely rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work.
You will work as part of a diverse and supportive team of Psychological Therapists, PWPs, nurses, psychologists, and psychiatrists. We are able to offer our team members the opportunity to continue to develop their expertise via training and development opportunities in different parts of our service.
Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to offer a trainee position.
Main Duties of the Job
Our wider service uses an integrated model which begins at initial detention, continues throughout time in custody, and through the gate into the wider community. We have found this model really successful and makes our working collaborative, achieving positive outcomes for the prisoners and helping to reduce reoffending.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to join the team and help us build, shape, and grow our service further. We want to hear your ideas.
The role will be based across the 3 prisons.
About Us
Our trust values are Safer, Kinder, Better and we want someone to join the team who lives and breathes these values.
If you have not worked in this setting, we encourage you to contact us before applying so we can arrange an informal visit and allow you to experience the realities of the role. It's also a great opportunity to meet our team.
What Can We Offer?
NSFT Secure Mental Health Services have been consistently rated "Good" by the CQC. Our secure services form part of a wide and growing body of clinical services operating in a variety of settings linked to criminal justice services. This is not a standalone role; as part of the wider NSFT Secure Services Psychology Team, you will receive excellent clinical supervision alongside professional and governance support.
Job Responsibilities
We are looking for a qualified PWP who has knowledge and experience of working within busy and challenging environments, such as community wellbeing services or secure environments, and working with people who present with a range of common mental health difficulties, including depression and anxiety.
The successful applicant will work autonomously and provide direct interventions to a defined caseload of service users operating within recognised professional guidelines. Qualified PWPs will usually undertake 5 contacts to provide assessments and interventions a day with residents of the prisons. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of a Psychological Therapist and report directly to the Senior PWP.
Due to the environment, this is a role that requires face-to-face interventions with the service users, with no opportunity for remote working.
