This is an exciting time to join the MMO as we play our part, in line with our vision for ‘A prosperous future for our seas, coasts and communities’, in delivering the new government’s mission with a focus on growth, net zero, and protecting and enhancing the marine environment. That includes the MMO’s Strategic Goal to manage a responsive and widely owned English marine planning framework.
The Strategic Renewables Unit (SRU) and the Marine Planning Team (MPT) sit within the MMO’s Marine Development (Domestic and International) Directorate, alongside the Marine Licensing Team and the Global Team.
The SRU Policy Lead will support the SRU’s vision and objectives to promote the deployment of sustainable offshore renewables. The successful candidate will engage with key topics to support the delivery of the British Energy Security Strategy, focusing on underwater noise.
The MPT’s core service is to prepare, implement, monitor, evaluate, and report on England’s marine plans based on sound evidence and data, and effective engagement, including working across government to influence the development of marine planning approaches. The Marine Planner role will be involved in stakeholder engagement, evidence and analysis, and implementation and monitoring.
A merit list may be created, lasting up to 12 months, to assist in filling other roles within SRU and MPT that may become available in the future. We welcome candidates with a broad range of skills and experience, including a background in planning, local or national government, evidence and analysis, team leadership, and project management.
You will work closely with colleagues within and outside of the MMO, engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, including Government Departments, environmental NGOs, and industry.
The SRU Policy Lead will also support the MMO’s activities on underwater noise in relation to offshore wind, contributing to improvements in licensing and addressing other potential barriers to offshore wind deployment.
The Marine Planner will contribute to the development and delivery of marine plans in England. This role will involve preparing marine plans and their supporting documents, engaging stakeholders, conducting evidence analysis, and monitoring implementation. Reporting to a Senior Marine Planner, the role holder will focus on at least one theme, including economy, environment, or social groups, providing leadership and management to marine planners within workstreams that contribute to the marine planning programme.
Selection Process - Candidates will be required to upload an MMO CV. Please use the attached template. FAILURE TO USE THE MMO CV TEMPLATE ATTACHED WILL RESULT IN YOUR APPLICATION NOT BEING SIFTED.
