Job Description
Reports To: Designated line manager e.g. Primary EOTAS Senior Teacher/ Assistant Advisory Officer (AAO)
Responsible For: In delivering this role, the PBSA will provide support to mainstream and Primary EOTAS setting staff and parents and will support referred children directly in settings and Primary EOTAS centres.
Job Purpose:
1. To support children referred to Primary Behaviour Support and Provisions (PBS&P) in education settings to build capacity and raise standards of achievement.
2. To build capacity within a child and to support staff in their management of a pupil presenting with social, behavioural and emotional wellbeing (SBEW) needs.
3. Through the modelling of interventions, support the capacity development of Classroom Assistants appointed by a school to support a pupil.
4. To work with school staff on programs which promote the development of children in relation to skills and competencies that are developmentally appropriate.
5. To contribute to assessment, intervention, progress monitoring and reporting on individual children.
6. To support the effective inclusion of children with SBEW in mainstream settings to promote learning, age-appropriate development and independence.
7. To work in conjunction with early education providers and professionals from other services and agencies. This work will be carried out under supervision.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Early Intervention Support for Children, Families and Education Settings:
1. Work under the direction of designated PBS&P staff to support children referred to the service with social, behavioural and emotional wellbeing (SBEW) needs.
2. Provide a caring and empathetic service to schools demonstrating a knowledge of supporting children with SBEW needs.
3. Model effective strategies which support learning and play.
4. Link with school staff and parents to promote active partnership working.
5. Support the development and implementation of pupil support plans and programmes.
6. Contribute to agreed baseline and on-going assessment of children with SBEW needs.
7. Implement agreed evidence-based early intervention programmes under supervision.
8. Work closely with parents, school staff and special educational needs co-ordinators in schools.
9. Contribute to the monitoring and review of children’s progress.
10. Build the capacity of education settings to support identified children.
11. Provide a professional standard of intervention, directly facilitating and modeling interventions in primary school classes.
Primary EOTAS Centres:
1. Support and contribute to the delivery of social and wellbeing programmes within the Primary EOTAS centre.
2. Support teachers both at the Primary EOTAS centre and in mainstream schools.
3. Support teachers in the implementation of pupil support plans.
4. Provide support and supervision of children attending Primary EOTAS during any off-site work.
5. Organise appropriate learning experiences and activities for children during informal times.
Monitoring Progress and Promoting Outcomes:
1. Assessing and recording children’s developmental stages.
2. Keeping accurate records of interventions and visits.
3. Contributing to reports on the progress of individual children.
4. Using Management Information Systems and software packages for record keeping.
Collaboration with Others and Inter-agency Work:
1. Work closely with other identified professionals to ensure consistent support.
2. Follow a co-ordinated approach in the identification, assessment, and support for children with SBEW.
3. Provide information to members of other Services when directed.
4. Attend meetings as appropriate, both internally and with other stakeholders.
Maintaining Quality of Service Delivery
1. Enhance skills and broaden knowledge by participating in the service staff development programme.
2. Take responsibility for professional development and attend relevant training.
3. Implement learning from training to improve the quality of support provided.
Other Duties
1. Comply with EA policies and procedures.
2. Contribute to the ongoing evaluation of the service.
3. Maintain confidentiality of information received.
4. Any other duties as required by the EA.
