Design Manager - London Underground Location: London Salary / Benefits: £60,000 - £80,000 dependant on level & experience plus package, and car /car allowance. Start Date: ASAP Company Information: A major Tier 1 civil engineering contractor are seeking to hire a Design Manager or a Senior Design Manager to join their Rail & Infrastructure team working on a Major London Underground Project. Roles & Responsibilities: Accountable for design assurance of complex multi-disciplinary rail deliverables and technical support to Project Managers in technical delivery in accordance with LU Standards. Manage, coordinate and integrate engineering design activities ensuring quality, timely delivery, compliance with British and TfL standards and manage assurance processes (Pathway). Champion the consistent use of LU procedures, standards and scope to ensure that all designers have an agreed understanding of the project remit and goals and their part within it. Champion a culture of getting design and delivery right first time. Drive the implementation of designs that achieve a 'Minimum Viable Product' to achieve client requirements. Implement improvement measures and share good practice as applicable. Ensure that the Project Manager and delivery team are kept informed on delivery progress. Manage interfaces throughout the programme at tactical and programme levels. Apply principles of rail System Integration for Design including; requirements specification and management, designing for robustness (Whole System Lifecycle), Safety by Design and System Integration and Verification. Monitor the designer's verification and validation process to ensure technical compliance with client requirements. Take account of the priorities of projects, effectively plan, monitor and control the technical delivery of projects to clients. Maintain a close working relationship with TfL client team & design partners to ensure clarity of scope, production/updates to programme, budget and accurate progress reporting. Support the PM in the management of designer assumptions and change control. Monitor compliance with engineering management plans. Position Requirements: You are required to have a Bachelors or Masters Degree (or equivalent Degree) with proven Design Management experience in a London Underground multi-disciplinary environment. It is desirable to be a member of a relevant professional institution with a sound understanding of design management principles and application in a rail environment Previously undertake the role of Design Manager on LU project Able to demonstrate and competence in multi discipline technical competence and leadership skills to facilitate and assist suppliers to achieve design outcomes. Can understand the LU and depot operational environment and constraints to find solutions to operational constraints. Proven ability to engage with, influence, and manage communications at an operational level with the project team and both internal and external stakeholders. Understand the factors affecting motivation of project team members Excellent organisation skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines Able to establish, produce and collate progress reporting and highlight any issues, outlining relevant mitigations.
