Line manager Head of Analytics
Purpose To provide expert data analysis, insight and recommendations that will drive evidence based decision making for the Senior Leadership Team, senior managers and other relevant parts of SFC as well as the university and college sectors.
Key responsibilities
1. Provide high quality insight and analysis to help SFC meet a wide range of priorities.
2. Build innovative and effective approaches to solve analytical problems and communicate clear and relevant results and methodologies.
3. Develop a range of reports and dashboards that utilise current statistical and analytical methods.
4. Interpret the analysis to tell a straightforward and compelling story and communicate this effectively to a wide audience with different business interests and skill sets, either in writing or through presentations.
5. Acquire data from other sources that add value to the excellent data SFC already has access to.
6. Line manage, develop and provide advice and support to other analysts across the team.
7. Establish effective and ongoing working relationship with colleagues across SFC and provide analytical support to policy development initiatives.
8. Represent the Council as required on committees and working groups and to internal and external stakeholders.
9. Provide advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders as required.
Skills, qualifications and experience
Essential
• Effective analytical and consultancy skills with the ability to present clear insights to support the end use of the data.
• Good team player who will improve the development of evidence-based policy across the organisation.
• Previous line management experience
• Ability to think and act strategically.
• Effective oral, written and presentation communication skills.
• Excellent IT skills including Excel and SQL, as well as R, Python or other similar programming experience.
• Ability to interpret and explain complex information to audiences with varying degrees of expertise.
• Degree level education (SCQF level 9) or equivalent experience, in a subject with a substantial quantitative content.
Desirable
• Knowledge of the further and/or higher education sector.
• Experience of using the Microsoft Azure toolkit.
• Experience of developing content in business intelligence tools e.g. Power BI or Qlikview.
• Qualification in statistical analysis.
