We are seeking a motivated Band 5 Biomedical Scientist to join our Microbiology Department. We are part of a modern laboratory within the newly formed Derbyshire Pathology joint venture for Derby and Chesterfield laboratories which are both accredited to ISO 15189.
The department performs bacteriology, parasitology, serology, molecular testing and operates an extended working day.

Main duties of the job
1. To undertake the day to day sample processing and analytical clinical investigations for Microbiology to the agreed standard of timeliness and quality.
2. Supervise support grade staff, including Associate Practitioners and MLAs within their work area.
3. Engage in training of staff and fully participate in the on-call and shift systems.
4. Familiarisation and understanding of ISO 15189 standards, Health & Safety requirements; audit and training/education techniques is essential.
5. Experience of utilising transformation methodologies to drive change and improve service delivery is also desirable.
6. Proactive individuals, with drive and dedication will excel in this post.

Qualifications
* State registration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist.
* BSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent.
Experience
* Demonstrable post HCPC registration UK laboratory experience.
* Knowledge of quality and accreditation processes (UKAS).
* Virology - Serology/ Molecular experience.
* Experience of troubleshooting.
* Participation in on-call/ out of hours.
Skills/ Knowledge
* Competent to be on the on call rota as a lone worker.
* Experience of audits and non conformances.
* Good verbal communication at all levels.
* Laboratory health and safety, COSHH and risk assessment.
