The role of the Lead Nurse for the Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Service is a high profile, dynamic, proactive, and pioneering role. The Lead Nurse for Head and Neck Cancer will be able to make informed decisions and have managerial responsibility for the nursing service delivery across the Head and Neck Cancer pathway. The focus of the role will be to improve overall patient experience and patient outcomes for patients with specialty-related conditions using service improvement and quality methodology and be responsive to challenging healthcare needs and advances in practice.

Main duties of the job
1. Engage directly with the surgical management team, the Head and Neck Navigator, the two week wait booking office, nursing, and secretarial teams to deliver a seamless service to patients presenting with suspected Head and Neck cancer on the 2-week wait pathway.
2. Provide specialist advice, leadership skills, collaboration, and consultancy to ensure that patients gain appropriate and timely care.
3. Develop consistent approaches to the strategic management of the patient group through training and education, policy and guideline development, audit, and research, and implementation of evidence-based care.
4. Ensure that nursing resources are managed and supported in line with service delivery.

10. Accountable for maintaining a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and infection control.
11. Responsible for adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy and Divisional objectives.
