This is an exciting time to join United Living on our Apprenticeship Programme as the business continues to grow and we have a significant order book of secured future projects.
Our New Homes business provides much-needed build-to-rent and affordable housing solutions, addressing the housing challenges facing our communities. We are looking for an apprentice to join the Development team and some of your key responsibilities will include:
* Liaising with and managing external consultants
* Reviewing incoming design information
* Monitoring pre-construction programmes
* Site visits to new and live sites
* Involvement within the planning process, providing development support to the in-house planner
* Working with in-house engineering and architectural departments to validate information
* Liaising with statutory authorities to agree site-specific requirements
* Supporting on build cost management and consultant fees
* Reviewing technical reports to identify key site design parameters.
* Reviewing site constraints and opportunities

* S1 Client and User Requirements: Be able to identify and assess client and user requirements and conduct feasibility studies so that the design reflects client needs.
* S2 Sustainability: Be able to identify, assess and manage sustainable solutions to client requirements and minimise environmental impact of project over building lifecycle.
* S3 Health and Safety: Be able to identify, assess and manage hazards and risks throughout the project lifecycle.
* S4 Project Management: Be able to select, form and manage the project team and agree responsibilities and processes.
* S5 Regulations: Be able to assess, advise and meet statutory regulations and legal constraints.
* S6 Design Development: Be able to prepare, present and agree proposals for project briefs, make recommendations, develop programmes and develop detailed designs for construction.
* S7 Specifications and Information Management: Be able to identify and prepare detailed designs and manage the project model (BIM), including integrating, evaluating and recommending changes.
* S8 Tenders and Contracts: Be able to select and evaluate tenders, choose and agree appropriate specialist contractors and control contractual compliance during construction.
* S9 Value Management: Be able to work with the project team to enhance value and/or reduce costs while meeting the project brief.
* S10 Risk Management: Be able to identify, assess and manage threats and hazards while optimising project opportunities.
* S11 Project Handover: Be able to manage project handover and completion and assemble operations and Maintenance Manuals for the building's end users.
Your training plan
As an apprentice with United Living, you’ll be given a real job from day one where you will gain hands-on industry experience, and the knowledge required to achieve a nationally recognised qualification. You’ll be inspired and stretched professionally, but fully supported by an expert network of colleagues, as you work to build the foundations for a career within United Living, and the construction industry.
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto the Level 6 Design and Construction Management (Degree) Apprenticeship, which will be delivered by our training partner the University of Central Lancashire. The programme is five years long and you will attend campus one day per week to study towards your qualification. You will be fully supported through a variety of methods such as lectures, learning materials, and one-to-one support from your tutor or coach. They will also meet regularly with you and your line manager to ensure you are progressing through your programme.
Upon successful completion of your apprenticeship programme, you will have achieved:
* Level 6 Design and Construction Management Apprenticeship
* BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology
* Site Safety Plus Site Manager’s Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
* Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS)
* Eligible for membership of Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologies (CIAT) and Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB)

To help you settle into your role, we’ll provide you with a buddy from our apprentice population. They will have some great advice as they were in exactly the same situation as you not so long ago, and you’ll also receive full support from your Line Manager and the Early Careers Team who will help guide you throughout your apprenticeship programme to help you achieve professional success.
