The Institute of Cancer Research, London, is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes with an outstanding track record of achievement dating back more than 100 years. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer, which we seek to achieve through world-leading research and internationally recognised teaching.
The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is rated as one of the UK’s leading higher education institutions for the quality and impact of our research. We are world leaders in the identification of cancer-related genes, discovery of new targeted cancer drugs and development of new forms of high-precision radiotherapy. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, and integrated 'bench to bedside and back again’ approach, ensure our research advances rapidly reach patients and place us among the top centres in the world for cancer research and treatment. We have charitable status and rely on support from partner organisations, charities, donors and the general public.
We now seek to appoint a Chief Development and Communications Officer (CDCO) to lead a step change in our external engagement, advancing our reputation and more ambitious and transformative fundraising growth. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Professor Kristian Helin, the CDCO has responsibility for all aspects of our fundraising and philanthropic activity, as well as our communications, brand and reputation. The CDCO will develop and implement successful strategies to raise awareness, understanding and the reputation of our work, and in so doing drive an enhanced programme of engagement with donors and other supporters.
Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to scientific research and a deep affinity with our ethos as a world-leading research and teaching institution. We are looking for individuals with proven experience across both areas of the portfolio; inspiring and effective people and partnership leadership, and the ability to nurture high-value relationships which influence our work and reputation.
The closing date for applications is at 9 am (GMT) on Monday 31st March. Final stage interviews will take place in mid-May.
