The Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer role:
Reporting to the Consultancy Group Director, the Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer shall be responsible for the delivery of nuclear safety projects and tasks, ensuring they are on budget and meeting the client’s satisfaction whilst also taking the lead in the preparation of nuclear safety cases and supporting documentation.
Key Responsibilities of the Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer will include:
* Leading HAZOP’s, HAZID’s and FMEA’s.
* Use of claims/arguments/evidence techniques or other similar tools to clearly articulate safety case arguments.
* Contribute to and lead the coordination of multidisciplinary teams in delivering project goals within the constraints of nuclear regulations, standards and security measures.
* Leading on Fire, Criticality, Radiological Shielding and any developing safety cases.
* Supporting clients in interaction with the regulator.
* Providing technical guidance for clients and colleagues on safety related impacts resulting from project decisions.
* Provide expert recommendations on complex safety issues, ensuring that all stakeholders understand the safety case rationale and the strategic benefits of recommended actions.
* Ensure that project deliverables algin with UK regulatory standards including those set by the office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
Role requirements for our Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer:
* A degree of equivalent in a relevant discipline, e.g. physics, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, control/electrical engineering.
* Chartership or equivalent.
* HAZOP/HAZID Leader.
* Established leader in nuclear safety ensuring high standards for safety, security, quality, environmental protection, sustainability and ED&I.
* Extensive expertise in nuclear safety techniques and safety assessment methods including deterministic and probabilistic methods.
* Substantial experience of safety case production and management for all stages of plant lifecycle from concept design to decommissioning, hazard identification, fault analysis, Design Basis Accident (DBA) Assessment, Barrier Analysis, Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA), Radiological Consequence Assessment and ALARP assessment.
* Able to build positive, productive relationships and networks and successfully engage with and influence stakeholders to achieve successful project outcomes.
* Excellent reporting writing skills.
* In depth knowledge of relevant UK regulations and standards (including the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017).
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Experience of using MS Office tools, including intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills
* Eligible to live and work in the UK.
* Full UK/EEC driving licence.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain security clearance of at least Security Check level (SC clearance) for this role.
