Deputy Harbour Master Location - Somerset Pay rate - £237.55 per day Hours - 40 hours per week.
About the role
Our site is a statutory harbour authority, set up specifically to facilitate the import of materials to be used in the construction of our clients Nuclear Power Station. Our client has constructed a 500m long state-of-the-art temporary jetty within the Bristol channel. The jetty operates based on construction demands as well as the demands of the environment, sitting within the 3rd highest tidal range in the world.
The Deputy Harbour Master is to assist the Harbour Master in the day-to-day management of marine operations at our client site. The role will have delegated powers of the Harbour Master in respect of navigational safety and at a wider level when deputising for the Harbour Master. Proven, effective interpersonal skills are required to ensure effective liaison, both internally and externally. An ability to work under pressure and make decisions within agreed delegation of authority. The Harbour Authority is accountable for compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code and the following:
* Navigational & Marine Operational Safety (Harbour Limits & Approaches)
* Local Lighthouse Authority
* Enforcement - General Directions, Special Directions
* Compliance with the ISPS Code as the appointed Port Facility Security Officer
* Responding to and Investigating Incidents as part of a Duty roster set up.
The role requires a blend of work at our client Main site and remote working however there is an expected requirement of 60% in office working. There may be a requirement to go afloat on-board vessels within the Bristol Channel in support of harbour and marine operations. The Deputy Harbour Master will share the responsibilities of response, to attend to any problems or emergencies outside of office hours. They will attend meetings and events with local, regional, and national stakeholders and regulators.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
* Previous demonstrable marine operations experience preferably at AHM level
* Previous practical vessel operating experience
* Demonstrable experience of PMSC compliant marine operations; including towage and shipping
* Previous demonstrable maritime incident response experience
* IT/computer skills applicable to the role
* The ability to interact and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders
* Undergo nuclear security clearance vetting to SC Level.
* Ability to deputise for the Harbour Master and act with authority when required.
* VHF SRC Operators Certificate
