Job Description Legal Counsel Full time Derby/ Hybrid Two exciting opportunities have arisen to join the Group General Counsel team, a global team of expert professionals focused on driving best practice and innovation in Legal, Compliance, Risk and Commercial activity, based in Derby. As Legal Counsel Litigation and Dispute Resolution, you will join the Corporate Legal Team to assist with claims, disputes and litigation across the Group with a focus on the Procurement business, ensuring that this business and the broader Group executes its strategy, through proactive provision of legal advice on a range disputes, claims and litigation, and influence at all levels. The role will also involve supporting Rolls-Royce’s other divisions, functions and capabilities including Civil Aerospace, Defence, Electrical, SMR and Rolls-Royce Power Systems as well as Head Office and Group Business Services. As Legal Counsel – Procurement, you will join the Procurement Legal Team to negotiate and contract complex, high value supply contracts with world leading suppliers from across the world. What you will be doing As Legal Counsel, you will: Deliver high quality, timely and technically correct legal advice and valued support to the business in a user friendly and decisive manner. Instruct and manage advice through external legal service providers. Develop and implement training and knowledge management, deploying best practice and actively sharing knowledge with colleagues in the legal function and the wider business. Interact, communicate and influence effectively at all levels including with senior and executive management. Maintain precedents and prepare internal reports. Work closely with internal clients, building and maintaining strong and collaborative relationships across all businesses and functions, with a particular focus on Procurement. Legal Counsel – Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Seek opportunities to continuously improve advice provided and management of disputes, claims and litigation including the use of technology. Ensure accurate financial reporting and accounting of claims, disputes and litigation including liaising with auditors in respect of claims. Support the improvement of the financial performance of the Procurement Capability through effective and efficient management of claims, disputes and litigation. Legal Counsel – Procurement: Anticipate and analyse related legal issues and proactively drive solutions to manage the impact of legal risk on the strategy of the business. Effectively manage legal risk on a project-by-project basis. Interact, communicate and influence effectively at all levels including with senior and executive management. Support the Procurement team on legal aspects of contract formation and negotiation, in-contract management, and risks and issues. A qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years PQE, with a current practising certificate covering English law, or equivalent recognised legal qualification. Strong written and oral communication, comfortable interacting at all levels within the business and externally. Good project management and team working skills, with a common sense and cost-conscious approach to legal risk management, and a willingness to drive pace and simplicity into working practices. Able to work with a high degree of autonomy, and comfortable managing own workload and projects. Legal Counsel – Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Dispute resolution subject matter expertise. Technical legal knowledge and practical experience of litigation and dispute resolution. Legal Counsel – Procurement: Able to influence at a strategic level on the Legal aspects of Procurement’s objectives. Technical legal knowledge and practical experience of procurement.
