Job description This is a great opportunity to join our team as a Field Interviewer working for the Office for National Statistics. As a Field Interviewer carrying out official surveys you will be helping to inform Government about the state of the nation. This role will be a mix of visiting sampled addresses to encourage them to complete surveys as well as interviewing respondents in their homes. We have vacancies in the following locations; Stranraer, Maybole, Dumfries, East Kilbride; you must select one location preference. Roles will be offered in merit order, if you are the highest scorer then you will be offered a role in your selected location preference. If youre not the highest scorer you will be placed onto a reserve list. This role is not office based. You are required to work within a 40 mile radius (approx) of allocated location.Your work will be allocated to ensure that you can travel and complete your work within your contracted hours in this area. Therefore you need to consider how you will be able to achieve this based on your home location in comparison to your chosen location preference. If you are unable to achieve this your offer will be withdrawn. This role comes with flexible working hours that we hope will meet your needs as well as ours. You will be employed on a 1144 hours annualised contract which is broadly equivalent to 22 hours work per week. To ensure that we reach respondents, interviews will need to be conducted between the hours of 09:00 20:00 and there is a potential for admin and travel time outside of these hours. Interviewers will need to work across mornings, afternoons, and evenings and are contracted to work Monday to Saturday, working on Saturdays if required. What we are we looking for? We are looking for individuals who have a friendly, outgoing personality and the confidence to approach and converse with a wide selection of people. You will need to have excellent communication skills to be the face of ONS and, where needed, to persuade any reluctant member of the public to take part in our surveys and to be interviewed. You will also be responsible for planning, organising and managing your own work loads, we will provide full training and support to help you with this. Person specification Including requirements of the role: Be able to transport and carry equipment such a laptop and survey materials with you, on occasion walk between addresses and navigate stairs when out in the field. Work approximately within 40 miles from the advertised location. Interviews will need to be conducted between the hours of 09:00 20:00. Hours will need to be split evenly across mornings, afternoons, and evenings, with flexibility to work on Saturdays if required. Experience of using a laptop and a smartphone. To be self-disciplined, self-motivated and happy to work without supervision. Have excellent verbal communication skills and enjoy meeting and talking to people. In your personal statement you are required to answer the question below using up to 250 words. Give an example of key skills you would bring that would make you a successful Field Interviewer? In cases where there is a high number of applications the sift pass mark may be adjusted and candidates will be invited to interview in merit order, i.e., those scoring the highest. If your application is successful, you will be invited to attend a video interview lasting between 30 - 45 minutes. At interview, you will be assessed on your suitability for the role by providing us with evidence in the interview to support what you have included in your application. You should make time to familiarise yourself with the required behaviours before interview and have any questions that you may wish to ask prepared. As part of the application process you will need to select one location preference. The highest scoring candidate will be offered their location preference. Any further offers will be made in merit order. On some occasions there may be more than one role offered per location. A reserve list may be held for period of up to 12 months from which further appointments can be made. Candidates should note this is a multi-location campaign and therefore the reserve list is recorded by location in merit order. Candidates offered a post in any of their preferred locations and who then decline will not be offered any further roles as part of this campaign. Should candidates score the same we will use the lead competency to determine merit order.
