Job summary
The role is important for the smooth running of the Adult Critical Care unit. Whilst working under the direction of the ward sister and supporting a multi-disciplinary team with receptionist duties, you will be expected to show initiative and communicate well, both in writing and verbally.
The post holder does require computer literacy and full training to use the hospital systems will be given.

A receptionist is required to complete the team. The post involves shift work working as part of a 7-day rota (which includes Bank Holidays).
We expect you to be caring, enthusiastic and well motivated. You'll need to demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills. You'll also manage to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's values.

Job responsibilities
Demonstrate knowledge of computerised patient administrative systems.
Complete necessary documentation and input data on PAS for admissions, transfers, deaths and discharges of patients, including updating patient information as
Check unit bed state and record all patient activity.
Check that appropriate consultant has been allocated to each patient and appropriately, track case notes, ensuring patient movements, transfers or discharges are recorded appropriately, liaising with Admissions to ensure that data is correct.
Log on to NHS Strategic Tracing Service to accurately trace details of patients general practitioners, dates of birth and other information where this information is not known, incomplete or inaccurate.
Regularly file results slips, investigation reports and nursing documentation in case notes, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. Ensure that all loose papers, including history sheets, investigation reports etc. have been appropriately secured and filed.
Communicate with GP surgeries to provide details of admissions and deaths whennecessary.
Organise and apply necessary documentation relative to patients deaths and despatch to appropriate locations.
Monitor PAS system several times a day for all patients test results and record these in patients results charts.
Liaise with medical secretaries, theatre staff and shift charge to co-ordinate booking and/or cancellation of elective patients and record resultant admission or cancellation details.
Photocopy medical notes for discharges to other hospitals, where appropriate.
Collate & return case notes and X-rays to file as and when required.
Maintain stock of medical and nursing documentation and general stationery order new supplies or photocopy templates as necessary.
