The Discharge Unit at Barnsley Hospital helps facilitate approximately 800 discharges per month. We have 6 bedded cubicles and can sit up to a further 20 patients. We continue all aspects of patient care whilst they await medication and transport home. We endeavor to ensure all patients have a safe and efficient discharge back into the community.
The working pattern is: 12hr shifts 7 days a week including BHs, covering hours Monday to Friday 0800-2030, and Saturday and Sunday 1000-1730.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated administration assistant with excellent communication skills.
You will be part of a team aiming for an efficient safe discharge of patients back into the community, and you will provide an efficient and effective administrative service to support clinical activity at ward level.
On a day-to-day basis, your role will involve answering the telephone promptly and professionally at all times, redirecting calls when necessary.
You will need to be a highly organized, confident person as you will be arranging, booking, and allocating patients to ambulances, ensuring patients get home in certain time frames.
Your role will also include data collection management and maintenance of stationary stores and the inputting of patients' details onto careflow. This list isn't exhaustive, so you will need to have a keen attitude to learning and to be flexible within your working day.
