An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Ophthalmology Assistant.
You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide high quality diagnostic testing within the Ophthalmology Department. This will include liaising with Eye clinic staff including Ophthalmologists, Optometrists, Orthoptists, Nurses and administrative staff to deliver a high quality ophthalmology service.
You will undertake a range of ophthalmic investigations including Humphrey Visual Fields (HVF) tests, retinal imaging using OCT and measuring visual acuity using Snellen and Log Mar charts. Good organisational skills are also required to monitor stock and equipment levels within the department.
Experience within a healthcare setting or optics is essential, as well as good numeracy, literacy and IT skills. Training specific to the role will be provided.
Main duties of the job
To support the Ophthalmology Team in maintaining an efficient and safe environment for the care of everyone attending the Ophthalmology Department. To assist all Registered Health Care Professionals in the provision of delegated care to patients. To undertake diagnostic and monitoring tests as required, providing clinical support.
This is a full time role which will routinely involve shift patterns between 08:00-20:00 Monday - Friday and 09:00-17:00 Saturday and Sunday.

Person Specification
Experience
* Previous experience within a health care setting
* Previous experience working within Ophthalmology
* Experience with various Ophthalmology equipment
* Previous experience working with a multidisciplinary team
* Experience of Visual Field analysers or OCT
Qualifications
* English and Mathematics GCSE or equivalent
* Knowledge and Training at working at equivalent of NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in related care subject
* Relevant Ophthalmic qualification
* Care Certificate
Knowledge
* IT Skills
* Ability to learn to use various computerised systems
* Able to use technology and equipment to assist in patient care
* Knowledge of anatomy and the physiology of the visual pathway
* Experience in working with the elderly or people with complex needs
