The Pre-Operative Assessment Unit is a welcoming, diverse and exciting department with a passion to deliver world class care to all our patients.
We pre-assess around 2000 patients a month across two sites. It is a fast developing service supported by consultant anaesthetists. We provide adult pre-operative assessments for patients undergoing operations under general anaesthetic and regional block for a wide range of surgical specialties.
We are looking for an experienced Pre-Operative Assessment Practitioner with strong leadership skills to provide managerial responsibility for high quality pre-operative assessment, clinical governance and staff leadership. The post holder will work alongside the current ward sister to ensure a cohesive, dynamic leadership team.
This is an exciting time within Pre-Operative Assessment to input into the pre-screening, risk assessment and optimisation workflows to support efficiency of the service to safely keep pace with the Trust's elective recovery programme.
The successful applicant will demonstrate knowledge and skill in management of people, quality improvement and change management. You will be an effective role model demonstrating high levels of clinical competence and expertise. You will provide proactive coordination of the units cross site and excellent communication with all members of the team.

As well as having significant experience in pre-operative assessment, the Department Leader will be required to;
• Have managerial responsibility for patient care, maintaining safe staffing levels and budgets.
• Ensure that the standards and quality of care given are maintained to a high standard, to include a safe environment in which care is delivered.
• Have responsibility for ensuring that patients and service users are involved in their care. Be aware of the care plans relating to every patient on the ward or department, and be visible and accessible to patients and staff alike. Provide visible evidence that feedback is used to maintain standards or implement improvements that have an effect on patient care.
• Be a leader and role model, providing regular direct clinical care, in addition to ensuring effective use of non-clinical time to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance, facilitating the modernisation of patient services.
• Commit to the standards within the NUH Professional Practice model and actively support the embedding of this within practice.
• Promote the health and well-being of staff and patients
• Have a clear understanding of Shared Governance as a model, to enable all staff to unleash their talents and work to their full potential.
• Work alongside staff as a leader and mentor, developing clinical competencies and evidence based leadership skills within the team and ensuring that the caring culture expected of professional staff is being maintained and upheld consistently.
• Contribute to the work of time-limited committees and project groups.
• Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required.
The post holder will be based at Nottingham University Hospitals covering services across both City and QMC.
