Sheep Procurement - Field Person
Location: Lockerbie, Scotland
Training: 6 months – Based in Ashby, Derbyshire
At Pickstock Foods, we are looking for a reliable and motivated individual to join our team as a Field Person in sheep procurement. This role involves overseeing the sourcing of sheep, maintaining supplier relationships, and ensuring that all procurement activities meet our company's strict standards and specifications.
The position begins with a 6-month training period based at our facility in Ashby, Derbyshire. During this time, you will gain hands-on experience across various aspects of the procurement process, including time at the abattoir. This will cover lairage, working on the production line, and gaining an understanding of our customers’ requirements. After completing the training, you will play a key role in developing our deadweight procurement operations and supporting the growth of our collection centre in Lockerbie.
You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with farmers, livestock suppliers, and hauliers. A key part of the role is establishing trust and rapport with suppliers, while confidently providing feedback when necessary. High standards of animal welfare are fundamental to Pickstock Foods, and you will be expected to promote and ensure these standards are upheld throughout the procurement process.
Following the training phase, your time will be divided between the collection centre and working directly with farms. You will be involved in all aspects of procurement, from sourcing sheep to arranging transport, grading, classifying, and feeding back to suppliers. Additionally, you will represent Pickstock Foods at agricultural shows and industry events as required.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, be punctual, and manage their time efficiently. No prior experience in sheep procurement is necessary, but you must be willing to learn and progress within the company. A full UK driving licence is required, and while knowledge of the sheep industry is desirable, we are prepared to provide the necessary training and development time for the right person.
This is a practical and demanding role that requires adaptability and a strong work ethic. If you meet these requirements and are interested in developing your career with Pickstock Foods, we encourage you to apply.
Please submit your CV along with a brief cover letter outlining your interest and suitability for the position.
