Our client, a leading firm in the aerospace sector, is currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team on a contract basis in Prestwick. This role involves providing mechanical design support as part of a Mid-Life Upgrade programme for the Atmospheric Research Aircraft, focusing on BAE 146 modifications. This project offers a unique opportunity to work from concept definition through to embodiment, test, and handover, collaborating with both customers and third-party civil design organisations.
Key Responsibilities:
Involved in the full phase of the design lifecycle, from conceptual design through to embodiment
Provide support to surveys and installations at customer sites as required
Investigate tasks and prepare estimates for costing and timescales
Creating models and drawings for details and installations using CATIA V5 software
Creation of Bill of Materials
Checking engineering data and drawings for accuracy
Preparation of compliance evidence reports
Deliver tasks to project schedules and costs
Communicate task status as required
Prepare and lead technical design reviews
Liaise with internal departments and external customers as required
Job Requirements:
Experience in airframe mechanical design (fabricated and machined components)
Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
Proficiency in CAD/CATIA, with preference for both 2D and 3D experience
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Powerpoint, Word, Excel)
Excellent communication skills for liaising with internal and external customers
Adherence to processes and procedures
Knowledge of airworthiness requirements and certification preferred, but not essential
BAe146 experience desirable but not essential
