We are seeking a talented and motivated Structural Engineer to join our team in Farnborough. The successful candidate will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, utilizing advanced finite element-based structural analysis codes and classical analytical methods to simulate the response of complex materials and structures in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct structural analysis using finite element modelling methods, particularly ABAQUS.
* Deliver projects involving novel research and methods development, as well as traditional engineering assessments and design-support activities.
* Write quality technical reports and presentations.
* Provide technical leadership and support to team members.
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on a broad range of national and international projects.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
* Experienced structural analyst with strong analytical and numerical skills.
* Proficiency in finite element modelling methods, especially ABAQUS.
* Ability to manage time effectively and deliver projects to time, cost, and quality.
* Knowledge of adjacent technical disciplines such as design, manufacturing, materials, aerodynamics/hydrodynamics.
* Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
* Eligibility to hold UK SC security clearance.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
* Analysis of composite structures, including progressive damage in multiple failure modes.
* Development and calibration of bespoke material models/sub-routines to simulate complex materials behaviours.
* Dynamic-explicit analysis methods, including impact modelling.
* Structural dynamics and vibration analysis and testing.
* Aero-elastic analysis and thermal analysis, including transient heat flow.
* Structural optimisation and creation of semi-automated workflows using tools such as Isight.
* Commercial awareness and experience of bidding.
* Programming skills in VBA, Python, or FORTRAN.
* Development of CAD models using Solidworks.
Domain Experience:
While technical capability is paramount, experience in aerospace, space, or weapons domains would be beneficial.
Additional Information:
The role is primarily based in Farnborough, with occasional off-site working possible. Current operations include provisions for home-working, though this may not be guaranteed for all projects.
