Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service (HIWFRS) responds to approximately 20,000 emergency calls per year and operates an extensive fleet of vehicles, equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and workwear assets to enable the effective and efficient delivery of a diverse range services to the communities of Hampshire and Isle of Wight.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join our Operational Assets Team as the research, development (R&D) and projects manager working with colleagues and stakeholders to support the development of methods and assets as the organisation manages the challenges of the future.
The role will undertake a critical role in driving innovation, solving complex fire and rescue challenges & requirements, overseeing the development of new products or technologies to enhance fire and rescue operations and safety whilst ensuring that projects align with the purpose and objectives of the organisation.
The role will work effectively with senior users, stakeholders and other specialised roles across the organisation to deliver a programme of projects across fleet and equipment areas of delivery. You will be proactive in the identification, management and escalation of risks to enable effective mitigation.
The role will be responsible for overseeing the effective monitoring and management of project managers to deliver R&D ‘sprints’ and established projects. You will provide expertise and management to govern and assure the delivery of departmental projects following project methodology and organisational procedure. Establish project teams to manage medium and major change activity.
You will blend technical (operational), leadership and interpersonal skills and experience to successfully oversee innovation and the organisation through the implementation of complex projects. You should have demonstrated experience of building and maintaining strong relationships and communicating effectively across all levels of an organisation including senior management.
You will have experience of supporting and managing procurement activity, in a local government setting with a clear understanding of procurement principles and processes.
You will be positive and enthusiastic about developing yourself, your team, and exploring new ways to ensure that our values and behaviours are embedded throughout HIWFRS.
