About us
Our mission is to deliver joy in every shop, through unbeatable choice, unrivaled service, and reassuringly good value.
We’re Ocado Retail, a market-leading, joint venture between Ocado Group and M&S and the world’s largest dedicated online supermarket. Not only is Ocado.com the only place to shop a full range of M&S food online, but it’s also the home to the widest online supermarket range in the UK and champion of small, independent brands. We’re also the brains behind, our same-day grocery delivery service.
About the team and the role
As a pure-play, online grocery retailer, Ocado Retail is able to capture data about every customer’s interaction with Ocado Retail at every point of the customer’s journey. The purpose of the Data & IT Governance Team is to ensure that this hugely valuable dataset is managed in a way that is safe, legal, secure and sustainable, helping maximise and protect the value of that data.
What you’ll do
As part of a newly formed Data & IT Governance team, you will work closely with the Data & IT Governance Lead to help unlock and preserve the value of the Ocado Retail data asset by:
Conducting both data analysis to understand the quality, consistency and referential integrity of our data, and business analysis to understand the processes that use that data and the data quality requirements they present. You will use this information to help identify the metrics and standards against which we measure and track the quality of our data.
1. Supporting the review and audit of key systems to help ensure the completeness, accuracy, consistency and validity of our data, and to ensure that the right users have the right access to the right data at the right time.
2. Supporting business and insight teams in understanding the meaning and provenance of Ocado Retail’s data by ensuring the development and continued maintenance of business glossaries and data dictionaries, and through offering consultancy and guidance.
3. Supporting data users and producers across the business in ensuring that our data solutions and processes adhere to the various privacy and security policies relevant to the protection of data.
4. Helping develop frameworks to identify and define data quality issues and requirements, and help make the data asset easier to understand and to use in support of our business strategy.
Who you are
Ocado Retail employees are constantly curious, happy working with diverse groups of stakeholders and always looking to challenge what’s possible. We are passionate about how data can be used to fuel business results in a sustainable way. The successful candidate will embrace these values and will have:
5. A solid understanding of data: Minimum 3 years of experience with the management, oversight or analysis of complex data systems that process data about individuals and their behaviour. You should have knowledge of data modelling, integration and manipulation.
6. Proven and effective communication skills: Experience working with a variety of stakeholders to understand their requirements, in alerting them to data issues that might impact them, and help guide solutions that meet those requirements and any relevant policies or regulations. You can work with technical and non technical stakeholders to ensure that resolutions to issues work for all parties, and are able to identify where repeatable frameworks are preferential to one off solutions.
7. An analytical mindset: The ability to break issues down into their component parts to understand their underlying cause, and to impact assess solutions to understand likely downstream impacts of design decisions.
8. Competent in data querying: Good experience with tools used in data manipulation and assessment, including SQL and MS Excel / Google Sheets.
Other desirable experiences include:
9. Implementing business glossaries and linking them to data catalogs.
10. Implementing data quality frameworks.
11. Solid understanding of GCP, including access management, monitoring, metadata, and cost management.
