Job summary This is an exciting time to join Ashford & St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, as we work on the expansion of our theatres at Ashford Hospital, and move towards this becoming our dedicated elective centre. We are looking to appoint a Senior Physiotherapist with inpatient orthopaedic experience to support this dedicated site. The elective caseload includes TKR, THR, Foot, Ankle and Shoulder surgery, and a variety of day case conditions i.e. Arthroscopic procedures and trauma surgeries. There is excellent multi-disciplinary working with the orthopaedic teams & involvement in enhanced recovery programmes for the elective joint arthroplasty and a fast-paced day surgery unit where the team strive for excellent patient outcomes. The postholder will be expected to support and supervise physiotherapists and therapy assistants with the support of the Physiotherapy team lead. They'll work closely with the multi-disciplinary team to provide high quality care & improved outcomes for patients. The successful candidate will have the ability to use their initiative, deputise in the absence of the band 7 and be an effective team worker with sound organisational abilities. There is expectation to participate in a rota working toward 8am-8pm cover, as well as weekends and bank holidays. Main duties of the job The main duties of the role include the requirement to: Work as an autonomous practitioner and manage a specialist orthopaedic caseload Complete comprehensive patient assessments, formulate clinical diagnoses and problem lists and provide physiotherapy as per elective orthopaedic pathways Contribute to MDT handovers or problem patient sessions Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, putting patient care and experience first Support junior staff with caseload management, prioritisation and clinical reasoning Actively participate in service development and contribute to monitoring of standards of practice, and take personal responsibility in your professional development and professional registration requirements Show passion for providing a high level of care and safeguarding to patients known to our service Use initiative, communicate with empathy and be an effective team player Demonstrate leadership skills and deputise for the team lead whenever necessary Participate in the development of physiotherapists and support staff within orthopaedics through training, competencies and supervision To take part in the weekend orthopaedic service and extended hours cover Form good working relationships with Orthopaedic consultants and ensure inpatient physiotherapy meets clinical expectation.
