About the Role
As a mechanical maintenance apprentice at William Lee, the candidate's duties and responsibilities will vary based on the company’s requirements. The candidate will build their knowledge in a busy foundry environment, forming the basis of their development into the next generation of engineers.
Role & Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that all work is completed to a high standard while complying with the Company’s Health and Safety requirements to ensure the safety of yourself and others.
2. Conduct risk assessments on all jobs in the form of 'Take Two’.
3. Communicate effectively with peers and management.
4. Work as part of the Maintenance Team ensuring all equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
5. Become fluent in the Company TPM maintenance system (Total Productive Maintenance) to ensure efficient running of plant assets.
6. Ensure that the working area is clean and tidy upon completion of any job/task.
7. Install and maintain new and existing equipment, ensuring production is not interrupted.
8. Put forward and communicate ideas and get involved with plant improvement.
Health, Safety & Environment:
1. Ensure compliance with the company’s health and safety and environmental policies, ensuring these are understood and upheld.
2. Always be equipped with the correct personal protective equipment and ensure it is properly maintained.
3. Report and record all accidents in the accident book.
4. Clear up any spillages immediately and ensure that the correct emergency equipment is always available.
Completion of the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre apprenticeships results in nationally recognized qualifications acknowledged and respected by employers worldwide. These can open doors to many more opportunities, such as Engineering Management and Project Engineering positions across a range of sectors.
About the Training
You will study on a Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship. Upon completion, you will gain a qualification in Engineering at Level 3 standard.
During the first year of the apprenticeship, your learning will take place at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre based at Catcliffe, Rotherham, for an initial block of study on a full-time basis. After this, you will attend the Training Centre for one day a week for knowledge study.

William Lee manufactures iron castings for a wide variety of international customers including BMW, Mercedes, Daimler, Borg, Castings, and GT. With four foundries on site and over 400 personnel, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to learn about the company as a whole, and you will be mentored directly by our skilled team while studying a Level 3 qualification with our training provider, AMRC Training Centre.
