Haddenham Garden Centre is an independent family-owned business which has been established for over 45 years.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an Outdoor Living, Seasonal and Indoor Assistant to join our team. The main focus of the role is within our Outdoor Living department which includes our ranges of quality garden furniture, BBQs, and outdoor living accessories. The role also includes working within many indoor categories such as Gift and Homeware, Christmas, and Clothing.
The role is full-time, 37.5 hours a week, and will include working alternate weekends with a set day off each week.
Purpose of the role:
To drive sales in the Outdoor Living and Indoor departments by ensuring that they are well stocked, merchandised to a high standard, and through the delivery of an exceptional customer experience. The job role will also involve providing general support on the shop floor, which will include operating the till and lifting and moving stock.
Duties:
1. Gain excellent product knowledge in the Outdoor Living and Indoor departments to effectively and confidently advise customers, demonstrate products, and drive sales.
2. Deliver excellent customer service to customers, exceeding their expectations and encouraging return visits.
3. Responsible for carrying out visual merchandising within the Outdoor Living and Indoor Departments, working alongside the Seasonal Supervisor and Visual Experience Manager to implement and maintain floor layouts and seasonal displays.
4. Assemble and merchandise Garden Furniture, BBQs, and other items, ensuring displays are innovative, commercially balanced, and that they are kept to the highest standard and refreshed on a regular basis.
5. Unpack deliveries, accurately receive these on our stock inventory system (EPOS), and price for sale.
6. Assist in the unloading of Outdoor Living container deliveries and booking these onto our EPOS system.
7. General housekeeping to ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained.
8. Provide general support on the shop floor which will include operating the till and serving customers, stock replenishment, lifting and moving stock, and carrying to car.
9. Provide support to other areas of the business as required.
Skills/Experience required for the role:
1. Previous experience in retail and/or sales.
2. Excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to quickly build a good rapport with customers, colleagues, and suppliers.
3. Able to demonstrate a great level of sales ability, which includes active listening and an understanding of our customer’s needs.
4. Must be fit and capable of manual work as the role will involve bending and lifting.
5. Demonstrate a positive attitude, with an ability to adapt and problem solve with an optimistic outlook.
6. Highly organised with high attention to detail and accuracy.
7. Able to remain calm in busy periods.
8. Able to work on own initiative and manage own time effectively.
9. Able to assemble flat-packed furniture and BBQs.
