About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Project Engineer to join our team in West Yorkshire. As an EC&I Project Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions across all project stages, from scoping and design to commissioning and handover. You will work closely with the project manager(s) to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet all safety and regulatory standards. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex, multi-discipline projects in a dynamic environment.
Key Objectives
* Take ownership and responsibility for the execution of assigned projects.
* Define fit-for-purpose engineering solutions, including budgets, estimates, schedules, and detailed scopes of work.
* Develop commissioning plans, training plans, and final documentation for projects.
* Support project managers with project monitoring, performance reporting, and change management.
* Ensure that all work is executed in compliance with company and client processes and safety standards.
* Foster strong relationships with stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.
* Strive for efficient and effective delivery through initiatives like “right first time” and “fit for purpose.”
* Communicate and cooperate with all affected parties to ensure seamless project execution.
Main Activities & Responsibilities
* Prepare overall project scope, costs, and schedules, supporting the development of project programmes.
* Contribute to process risk assessments (PRAs) and liaise with construction teams for scope, estimates, and constructability information.
* Coordinate the design process with multi-discipline teams and ensure input from stakeholders, including customers, operations, and subcontractors.
* Facilitate a team of engineers and designers to develop fully detailed and approved designs, considering all relevant standards, specifications, and processes.
* Manage procurement and expediting of materials, review specifications, and validate supplier performance.
* Support the construction and commissioning phases of projects and ensure the technical query process is managed efficiently.
* Define commissioning and training procedures and manage critical spares inventory.
* Take responsibility for project handover and completion, ensuring all documentation is properly produced, issued, and controlled.
* Report on key project metrics including programme, cost, quality, and changes.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
* Degree / HND or equivalent in Control, Instrumentation, or Electrical Engineering.
* HSEQ qualification (e.g., IOSH).
Preferable:
* Level 4 Project Control/Management Qualification.
* CompEx certification (ExF, Ex01-04, Ex05-06, Ex12).
* Functional Safety (IEC61508) certification – TUV or equivalent.
* BS7671:2018 IET Wiring Regulations - C&G2382-15 or equivalent.
* CDM regulations knowledge.
Experience:
* At least 5 years of recent experience in a similar role.
* Experience in industrial sector engineering, especially within COMAH Tier 1 process manufacturing environments.
* Knowledge of maintenance, shutdowns, outages, and both OPEX & CAPEX projects.
* Strong understanding of functional safety, ATEX, and the Electricity at Work Regulations.
* Experience with project delivery lifecycles, engineering design processes, and document control.
* Familiarity with procurement, expediting, and installation processes.
* Experience in managing multi-discipline projects and teams, and coordinating with various stakeholders.
