We are looking for Team Leaders to join our Festival Team from 31 March – 20 April 2025!
Pay: £27,040 per annum (based on 40 hrs/week) equates to £13 per hour* + holiday pay
Temporary/FTC
Hours: Festival period including weekends
Location: Our festival venues in Edinburgh
*Rate increase from 1 April 2025 to £13.23 p/h + holiday pay
The role:
As a Team Leader with Edinburgh Science Festival, you will be part of the team ensuring the high-quality delivery of workshops and activities that make up the Festival’s family programme at our flagship venue - City Art Centre.
You will lead a team of 2-11 Science Communicators working on their events throughout the festival run and within one of our family venues. You will be responsible for:
1. Oversight of all aspects of your designated event/s and their physical space;
2. Ensuring workshop spaces are being delivered to Edinburgh Science’s standards;
3. Delivering high-quality science communication and customer service.
About you:
You will have confident communication skills, a passion for excellent customer service, and be a quick learner, comfortable with scientific information. You will have an outgoing, friendly approach and enjoy working with children aged 3-15 and their families. Experience in Science Communication with family audiences in a festival setting or science centre context is essential. Some supervisory or team management experience is highly desirable. A background in theatre or performing arts would also be beneficial, and a flexible, energetic approach to managing small teams is key.
You must be available to work full-time for all the dates in the Festival period.
You will be required to attend the following mandatory training sessions:
1. Science Communication Training: Saturday 22 March 2025
2. Set up day(s): 27 or 28 March 2025
3. Event Specific Training: 29 March 2025
4. CAC Schools Programme: Monday 31 March – Wednesday 2 April 2025
5. Science Festival Lates: Thursday 3 April 2025
6. Festival live (depending on venue): 5 April – 20 April 2025
These opportunities facilitate science communication and public engagement of STEM to young people in venues around Edinburgh City Centre. The role provides experience and upskilling opportunities within the Creative and Cultural sector.
