Job Title: Software Engineer - Emerging Technology & Innovation
Salary Range: £70,929 - £106,394
Location: Manchester
Hours: 35 hours, full time
Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites.
About this opportunity:
This role sits in our Emerging Tech & Innovation team, where we aim to create a future where customers choose Lloyds because we regularly launch new products and services that improve their financial lives. This is a unique chance to join a team that celebrates curiosity, diversity, and value creation!
We’re looking for ‘full-stack’ Software Engineers to join our Engineering Innovation team. This team is dynamic, versatile, and adaptive, with a core purpose focused on research, experimentation, and building prototypes that could be deployed at scale across the organization. You’ll have opportunities to participate in internal Hackathons, coding challenges, and bi-weekly platform meetings, becoming a member of a great engineering community passionate about sharing knowledge and learning.
What will I be doing? (The exciting bit!)
* Responsible for the design, build, and testing of engineering innovation experiments. You’ll be directly responsible for writing and maintaining the codebase, and as such, you’ll have deep expertise in modern 'full-stack' programming languages and technologies.
* Demonstrate continuous personal development in new & emerging programming languages and technologies.
* Conversant in Quality Engineering (QE) and DevOps processes and technologies. You will also be responsible for creating and maintaining appropriate user documentation.
* Collaborate closely with internal customers across the Group's engineering and architecture communities to ensure all our experiments maintain standards of engineering excellence and alignment to strategic technology direction.
What you’ll need:
* Deep working experience across a range of ‘full-stack’ programming languages. The term ‘full-stack’ is broad and ever-changing, so it is not expected that you’ll have all the technical skills listed below, however, you should demonstrate a range of these at a proficient level.
* Front-end technologies, e.g., Javascript/JS Frameworks, HTML/CSS.
* Mid-tier technologies, e.g., API, ReST, Web Server, SSO, IAM.
* Server-side & database technologies, e.g., Java, C#, GoLang, Node.JS, Python, SQL Server, Cockroach, MongoDB.
* Mobile technologies, e.g., Swift, Android.
* Core cloud platforms, e.g., Google, Azure, AWS.
* DevOps & CICD tools, e.g., Jenkins, Urban Code, Atlassian, GitHub, MS Team Foundation Server, SonarQube, Kubernetes.
* Practical knowledge of software development processes.
* Engineering experience working within an Agile framework.
* Systems design thinking and solution architecture.
* Practical experience creating user documentation.
* Collaboration skills; working effectively alongside engineering teams, technical specialists, product owners, vendors, and partners to ensure experiments are clearly scoped and driven.
We are committed to building an inclusive organization that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity, or culture.
We offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:
* A generous pension contribution of up to 15%.
* An annual performance-related bonus.
* Share schemes including free shares.
* Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping.
* 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top.
* A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies.
