The opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director of Data Science and Analytics to lead our data initiatives and influence business strategy through actionable insights. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader with extensive experience in data science methodologies, AI, and machine learning to make a significant impact. You will oversee a talented team of data scientists and analysts, crafting and executing a comprehensive analytics strategy while collaborating with senior stakeholders to embed data-driven decision-making throughout the organisation.
About the role
As a thought leader on data utilisation, predictive modelling, and advanced analytics, you’ll champion data-driven decision-making, supporting the CDIO in enhancing digital and data-led competencies across our workforce of over 12,000 nationally distributed colleagues. You’ll build and nurture the data team, leading, mentoring and developing a team of data scientists, analysts, and data engineers, ensuring a balanced mix of skills.
A key aspect of this role is to oversee the collection and analysis of large structured and unstructured data sets to drive actionable business insights. Innovate and implementing AI and machine learning methodologies to solve complex business problems and enhance customer engagement. Translating business challenges into analytical solutions and presenting insights and recommendations to leadership, ensuring data is accessible and comprehensible to all stakeholders whilst ensuring compliance with data governance.

In this role, we are looking for you to demonstrate:
* Deep expertise in data science, analytics, predictive modelling, and advanced analytics, with a focus on AI and machine learning.
* Experience of creating environments where people are motivated to do their best, with specific experience of developing and growing data science and analytics teams.
* Ability to make sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
* Strong knowledge of programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or relevant tools.
* Familiarity with data visualisation tools (e.g., Power BI, Qlik, Tableau) and platforms, preferably Azure & Databricks.
* Strong business acumen, including project management with the ability to translate data insights into actionable insights.
* Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Strong leadership capability with high levels of influence in building strategic partnerships and working collaboratively to meet shared objectives.
